So, on the phone I am with the tree guys again and in no time they were out to access the damage. It's a no brainer taking this one down, but which way will they rope it to fall?
Then all of a sudden the tree guys says, you've got moss! Really? He said, where's there's moss, there's mushrooms! I have never heard about mushroom hunting, or as they are called "Morels" but he continues to tell me how delicious they are! It's really a big thing around here and everyone is talking about the big mushroom (Morel) hunts.
Tree guy tells me that the best place to find them are around Elm tree. Do we have elm trees? Duh, of course we do! So, we start walking around the yard, through the trees, and bushes. He points down near the creek where he says they are, but there is NO way I am venturing down there in my pink flip flops!
And a word of caution...if you plan on going hunting, make sure you have a lot of insectiside and proper clothing because it's not fun picking ticks off!

And that's the Morel of the story!

Julie, no I don't get that magazine, and I have blogged about glass blowing? I think you might have me mixed up with katearch who posted about that guy from Peoria. Unless you're referring to the glass mug in the beer belly xray! :)

dip in egg, roll in breading, salt & pepper to taste, fry, and eat! I remember putting a little ketchup on them when I was young, but not now!
Oh thanks Ramble...if I ever cook them I will have to try them this way! Can you tell, I am a little leary of eating wild mushrooms?
OH my...how have you never heard of morels????
My mom used to spend hours and hours in the woods behind my house hunting for them. They sell for more than 35.00 a LB...
They are absolutely delicious!
You have to soak them overnight in salt water to get all the creepie crawlies out of them before you fry them. (I know...kinda gross, but they do grow wild)
They really don't taste like conventional mushrooms, they are much more mild flavored.
I got some last year in the yard behind my old house.
I was in sheer heaven!
And don't be leary at all...trust me, they are a wonderful springtime treat.
jaded...guess I am just a city girl! I will have to take a walk out back and go hunting! Thanks for the great tip! :)
