It's been one heck of a week...Last Thursday, Thanksgiving, around 2:00 in the afternoon we lost electricity. Well, we didn't really lose it, we knew where it was but for some unknown reason we had a blackout. At first I thought that Mr. Wonderful was f*cking around with the circuit breakers because we have been having problems with one of those that decides to trip when we least expect it.
Mr. Wonderful confirms that it isn't him playing electrician and gets on the phone with the wonderful world of Cilco! They blatantly admit it is on their end and would work on it to restore power to our lovely home.
The next thing we know, we get a phone call from Cilco saying that they are going to have to send a crew out to dig trenches and lay new wires...JULIE was here flagging the yard, and at preciously 10:00 pm, the crew with three big ass trucks show up and line the street with the annoying loud engines running. Oh, the neighbors are going to love us!
By 1:30 in the morning the crew in their hardhats with those little flashlights attached were done and we had power! Yippee! Friday morning we go to let the dog out and there is a big hole by the back gate with a pile of dirt so the gate wouldn't shut so first thing...shovel the shit away so the gate closes and we can let the dog out so he can relieve his bladder. The wires coming from the house were laying exposed on the ground thus means no trenches were dug so they I assume they will be back to finish the job! Don't step on the wires!!! Make sure the dog doesn't chew on them!!! Leave the red flags alone in the yard!!!
But that's not the end of the story...
Saturday we had our first snow! That was nice! It didn't stick to the ground but it looked like a blizzard outside. Yada Yada Yada...
Sunday I decided to cook my Thanksgiving dinner that had been sitting in the fridge because I wasn't sure what Cilco was going to do. This year we did something different. We bought a Turducken. For those who aren't familiar with Turducken, it's a chicken stuffed into a duck, and the duck is stuffed into a turkey and it's stuffed with sausage and cornbread stuffing. This stuff is awesome!
Monday morning I get a call from Cilco (finally) saying that they need to come out and finish accessing the problem and get power restored to our house. They inform me that they are going to have to reroute the wires to the house. Yeah, Yeah, Yeah...do what ever you haffta do...Then, and I emphasize on "THEN" the sweet person on the other end of the phone tells me that since the structure (yeah a an addition to the house) that sits on top of their equipment was done illegally because you CAN"T build over their equipment we, us are going to incur the charges! Um, we bought this house four months ago...how, what did we do illegal? I think it was the previous owners! Of course but since THEY don't own the house anymore and WE do, we are responsible! So, the sweet person on the other end of the phone drops the bomb and reveals the cost~Oh yeah, between $5,000.00 and $10,000.00! Hmmmm...okay...call Mr. Wonderful!
So, Cilco came out, they sketched a new route for the wires to laid and gave us the cost...$2,626.00! I guess that's good news! They will start digging the trench next week...there goes the yard! And best of all...we have to pay for the landscaping to have it restored back to look like we didn't have some varmint burrowing 150 feet along the driveway!
Oh...never a dull moment!
