Flamingo Friday

I have flamingo fan that loves to read my blog so I thought I would dedicate this post to her...

FLAMINGO LORE AND TRIVIA - -

What Your Mother Did Not Tell You About Flamingos

If it is a murder of crows, then what is the term for a flock of flamingos? It's a pat of flamingos.
Flamingos have knees that can bend backward. However, what we refer to as their knee, is actually their ankle.
Ancient Egyptians revered the flamingo as a living symbol of the sun god Ra. And of course, ancient Romans considered flamingo tongue to be a delicacy.
A flamingo's large, fleshy tongue is covered with bristle-like projections that help filter water and food particles.
A newly hatched flamingo chick’s bill is straight, then develops the characteristic curve as it matures.
Flamingos have 12 to 16 tail feathers.
The word flamingo is most likely derived from the Latin, flamma, flame.
Flamingos molt (shed and replace) their wing and body feathers at irregular intervals ranging from twice a year to once every two years. Flamingo feathers lose their color once they have been molted / discarded by the bird.
Flamingos can live up to 20 years in the wild and 50 years in captivity.
A flamingo's eye is actually larger than it's brain!
It takes about 3 years for a flamingo chick to develop its full coloration. Flamingos will not breed until they get their full pink coloration.

And just for fun...here's a puzzle for you!

It's Flamingo Friday!!!
