Enjoy~again!
And to answer Lexie's question (okay, I know it was Mom who asked)...
Back in 1985, I bought a hot tub,and instead of putting it outside like everyone else does, I decided to put it in the spare bedroom. I painted the walls a nice aqua color, put up mirror tiles on one wall to make the room appear larger, and hung nice brass towel racks for the oversize bath sheet.
The room needed something else, a more tropical feeling to it! What else could be more tropical than flamingos and palm trees? I went on a hunt and it didn't take me long. I found some border paper with flamingos, cabana's and palm trees which accented the aqua walls perfectly! A flamingo shower curtain for the window, and flamingo throw rugs for the floor.
I had a friend who opened up a Retro shop in her house, and she bought some things she thought would be perfect from the 50's...Flamingos! Tacky pink plastic birds that you had to have in your front yard next to the lawn jockeys. Needless to say, Teri and I became great friends, and flamingo fanatics!
The hot tub room was filled in no time with flamingo's and then they started to migrate out to the back yard...I was hooked! Flamingo clothing, flamingo food, flamingo everything! I even named one of my dog's...Pinky! I would have named her "Flamingo" but it didn't sound right...
Then every birthday, Christmas, occasion, I was presented with another pink bird! You could say, I was very easy to buy for! Teri closed her business and all the flamingo's she had were adopted by ME!
My collection has grown tremendously over the years, but it never seems to amaze me that there are still more flamingo treasures that I don't have.
I Love Flamingos! For some reason, they make me very happy!

That's so funny! Thats the first time we ever saw your blog, but I don't remember!
Lexie is at school right now... I had the morning off (Swam and biked for my tri), but I will be sure to show her later. Actually she will recognize that you wrote her name in the letters in her blog, which may be almost as exciting.
Our house is slowly starting to resemble your flamingo room... but not quite there. Everyone picks up flamingos for us... and as far as the 8 foot flamingo goes... one has been at a local consignment shop for about a year and my daughter's teacher just asked me why we hadn't purchased it yet... I can justify a lot of things to hubby, but an 8 foot flamingo?
Now she fell in love with flamingos her first trip to Sea World and it just so happens that we have a local attraction with lots of flamingos, as well. How did you fall in love with them?
becs...I updated my blog just for you and Lexie!
I have an 8 foot Flamingo! It's a must have...go get it!!! :)
And I quote: Flamingos! Is that my room? What a cutie 'mingo (in reference to the 8 ft one)! My go there? I like those mingos a lot. I think that one is named Pinky. (Pinky is our made up flamingo friend.) Where's this? I need to go there. The mingos want to see me and go to my school! I love them.
SO you see, this was quite a successful blog post and we certainly appreciate the answer to the question!
And flamingo lawn ornaments have certainly improved over the years... I can see that with some assurance, since we do in fact, have one. I will have to take a picture of Lexie flamingo's to reciprocate for you.
becs...The next time you are in Peoria Illinois, you are more than welcome to come to our home. We have enough room!
Lexie is so cute! I am going to have to will her my collection! I think she's the only one who would appreciate having it! Although my husband loves flamingos too!:)
Hmm, the next time we are in Peoria... I can honestly say we have never been. In fact I was getting Peoria and Aurora confused for a while (Wayne's World). I am sure that is an embarrassing confession to make.
I never was a mingo fan before, but now... we are turning everyone into flamingo fans... one curved beak at a time.
