For some time we have been hearing chirping noises coming from inside the satellite dish in back. I didn't think the opening could be large enough for a bird to make a nest in but when I saw this I guess they will nest in just about anyplace...

I'll show it to my mom today...she's an avid birdwatcher out in her neck of the woods. :)
Off the top of my head, I'm guessing some sort of wren.
GA...that's what Mr Wonderful thought, "wren" I was guessing some kind of "finch".
Mos def not a flamingo! :)
ha ha, i was going to type... well its not a flamingo so it doesn't fit in!
becs...I think flamingo's prefer cable in Florida :)
THank goodness, we have underground FiOs.... I'm not into any birds tapping into my TV time!
Now, has this nest caused any problems? Just wondering.
It's a house wren. (Troglodytes aedon)
It has one of the largest ranges of any songbird in the New World. Like bird houses. If I were to make a birdhouse for one, the hole would be about an inch in diameter.
becs...the birds have nested in a satellite dish that isn't being used. I don't think I could watch TV knowing there are baby birds in there~
gary...thanks for the info. I knew someone would know what kind of birds they were. I was told last night that wrens will make their nest in just about anything.
so i see you have yourself a songbird... does it sing mashed potatoes? he he
becs...it has been all day in my ear. That darn worm!
If you do make houses for them, make sure the hole isn't too big, or sparrows will raid the nest. My grandfather used to make birdhouses, and he would trace the outline of a quarter for the entrance. It was big enough to let the wrens in, but not big enough for sparrows, jays, etc.
morton malaise...I was wondering why these birds made a nest in such a small opening...it's gotta be about the size of a quarter and almost impossible to get into. I haven't heard them peeping in there so maybe they flew the coop?
The babies are almost certainly gone by now. This was probably the second hatching of the year for the pair.
